Chest Pain Treatment

What Happens During Chest Pain Treatment from a Cardiologist

Chest pain treatment may be necessary when any type of discomfort or abnormalities occur within or around the chest. A cardiologist is typically the professional that focuses on chest pain and the treatments that are required. Their expertise and training helps them to appropriately evaluate, diagnose, and monitor any chest pains or problems.

When it comes to chest pain, there are various reasons why it may occur. More often than not, it is a result of a heart condition, which is where a cardiologist comes into play. Of course, there are many other reasons why chest pain may occur. What is important to know is that the cause of it will likely determine what type of treatment is necessary. Continue reading to find out more!

Expectations for chest pain treatment

Below is a quick overview of what to expect from chest pain treatment. Reviewing this information may be helpful to individuals that commonly experience chest troubles.

The evaluation

To start chest pain treatment, a cardiologist must first perform an evaluation. The evaluation will involve a series of tests to determine the cause. Diagnostic tests include EKGs, x-rays, blood tests, MRIs, and/or stress tests. Additionally, questions about health conditions, lifestyle habits, and genetics may be asked. It is important to be prepared to answer these questions as it will help determine what type of chest pain treatment is necessary.

Treatment

If the chest pain is a result of a heart attack, which does tend to happen, the cardiologist may have to perform emergency surgery. This type of chest pain treatment will help restore blood flow to the heart via a stent or balloon. Other types of chest pain treatment include medications for anxiety or anti-acids, as well as procedures such as lung re-inflation.

Of course, there are one-off conditions that may cause chest pain; however, if it is a repetitive problem, it may be a result of certain lifestyle habits. In this case, the cardiologist may recommend serious lifestyle changes, such as exercise and diet alterations. Additionally, any bad habits like smoking or drinking alcohol may have to be kicked.

What else to know

It can be easy to automatically assume that chest pain treatment is necessary for a serious heart condition. However, this is not always the case. Chest pain can be a symptom of an anxiety attack, high blood pressure, or even a seasonal cold. With that being said, it is still important to always consult with a professional.

Find out more from a cardiologist
